Robin Hood, Guildford


Description: This smaller venue has the feel of a football or rugby club bar, this is emphasised by the team photos on the wall in one corner and the blue and white tartan carpet, left over from the last time the Bay City Rollers were in town. It has its own car park on one side and a municipal one (free after 6pm) on the other. The ceiling probably started off as magnolia-painted embossed paper but is now yellowed by years of smoking, however now all the smokers have to stand outside the door. The walls are covered with photographs of the regulars enjoyed themselves and the bands that have played there. Towards the back is a raised area which I think would surely work better as a stage for the music, though they seem to prefer the other corner. It has small diamond-pattened windows, which make it dark inside during the day. Beers on offer include Fosters, Stella Artois, Guinness. Live music on Friday nights, other entertainment is provided by fruit machines and a jukebox.

Description: This one room venue, has an L-shaped bar and the usual bright multi-coloured carpet. The ceiling has black oak beams as the name suggests. The walls are covered with prints of paintings, old photograths, and blackboards with the specials and ads for forthcoming events. Beers include Fosters, Kronenbourg 1664. The ales from gales, hsb are now joined by London pride. The usual selection of red & white wines and spirits. Small tables and wooden chairs. A dartboard and fruit machines. A small CRT TV for sports. This venue is now under new management and is being refurbished.

Running Horse, Bracknell

Description: This spralling venue has been sub-divided up into smaller seating areas, the bolt hole, the executive suit, etc. There is a small dance floor with disco lighting in front of the stage by the main bar. To the right is a restaurant, the hungry horse. Beers on offer include Fosters, Carling, Stella Artois, Kronenbourg 1664, Guiness, also Magners and Strongbow cider, bottled beers, wines and spirits. There are a few continental style high tables near the stage, the best place to sit to see the performance, and low wooden ones further back with long sofas to chill out with friends. The Entertainment is provided by fruit and quiz machines, with several large LCD Tvs for sports. There were a handful of over 40s there, but most of the customers were younger. Live music on Friday nights with a disco on Saturday nights. They are also running a talent contest.

Saddler's Arms, Send


Description: This is a very traditional pub. The Main bar is dominated by black oak beams and a large fireplace (the fire is gas powered, but very well designed). A wide selection of lagers (Stella Artois, Carlsberg), ales (Spitfire, Fuller's London Pride and Directors Best, and red and white wines, Quinns, and spirits are on offer. It is run by 2 couples, Joyce & Richard, and Aimee & Clive. Once a year the pub plays host to a local band of Morris dancers. The musical entertainment includes "Open Mic Night" on Mondays (first and third) and Live Music every Saturday.

Sun Inn, Chobham

Description: This medium-sized venue has a snug at the far right hand corner, with a log-burning stove with an old rifle over it, and a cabinet with beer steins. Let's hope they use the Steins more often than the rifle. Most of the walls are bare bricks with dark wood paneling up to the dado rail, except for a couple that are plastered and painted magnolia. They ae decorated with art prints, mirrors, brewery posters and memorabilia and noticeboards with forthcoming events. The pretty high ceilings have authentic black oak beans and cainwork fans. There is a very old-fashioned L-shaped wooden bar with high stools, and plenty of wooden tables with upholstered chairs. Beers on offer include Becks, Fosters, K1664, bitters including Director's, London Pride and TBA real ale. Along with a selection of wines and spirits. Live bands on Friday nights, with Flick playing covers on Tuesdays, and the occasional blues or Jazz band. Other enterainment is provided by a billards table, a selection of board games, and the charming barmaids.

Surrey Cricketers, Windlesham

Description: This large venue has a patio at the front, and a large car park at the side, and a large beer garden at the back. Inside there are plenty of tables and chairs, Unfortunately the immense size is carried inside too, all the furnature seems to be 20% bigger than necessary. This can be comforting in a chair, but the stools make you feel like Dennis Waterman in that Little Britain sketch. Don't get me wrong, they are well made, and pleasant to sit in, it just looks a little weird. The walls are decorated with blackboards showing special offers, and old posters, and art prints. The floors are bare boards, although probably very hygienic, can make the place more noisy. There are large windows on three sides which let in a great deal of natural light. All of this gives the venue a relaxing seaside feel. The long bar has upholstered stools. Beers on offer include London Pride, Spitfire, Greene King I.P.A, Carlsberg, Guinness, Carling and San Miguel, Strongbow cider and wine on tap. Live music is presently on alternate Wednesday nights. Other entertainment is provided by a large LCD TV. They also have a function room for hire. Sadly this venue no longer does live music.
