Elmbridge Arms, Weybridge
Description: Formerly The Percy Lambert. This
large venue has high ceilings and mood lighting, with a chandelier over
the bar and some oversize burgundy shades. Most of the walls are
plastered and there's also some bare brickwork. They are decorated with
stretched canvas works of art, and old motor racing photos. Which is not
surprising as the venue is named after a racing driver. The first man
to drive at 100mph in 1913. He was tragically killed, just 8 months
later, and his ghost is said to haunt the nearby Brooklands track. The
flooring is the trendy option of bare wooden boards. The seating is a
mixture of high tables and stools and some normal size ones, and a
couple of padded benches. The four sided island bar is in the middle of
the room, with the spirit bottles arranged on tiered shelves. There are
no optics, but with those curved metal tubed caps. Beers on offer
include Carling, Fosters, Heineken, Hoegaarden, Peroni, Stella, John
Smiths Smooth, Guinness and Strongbow Cider. Also real ales Greene King
IPA / Old Speckled Hen, Fullers London Pride. There is a pool room at
the back, and a few fruit and quiz machines. The small raised stage for
live music, though your view is often interupted by the steady flow of
drinkers to the toilets and back again. Being situated in a high street,
it has almost no windows, though the front has glass doors which look
like they can be rolled back in summer. It has recently re-opened
following a major refurbishment in Sept 2006. It is for over 21s only.
