Compasses Inn, Gomshall

filler
Description: Built in 1930 originally as a beer shop, this venue sit by the Tilling Bourne stream. It only has a small car park, compared to its size. The bar area has stained oak beams and lilac painted walls, and red floral-patterned carpet. There is an odd collection of lethal looking antique agricultural implements on display, as well as many of the beer-mats from days gone by. There are plenty of tables and chairs, though the circular one in the centre, designed for patrons to stand around, doesn't have enough clearance, for people to pass, when the bar is crowded. They serve a selection of real ales from the Surrey Hills Brewery. On the other side is a proper restaurant, with access from the bar or directly from the street. The free live music, has been running for the last 10 years and is on Friday nights. They also host a mini-festival Gomstock, usually held on the Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend.

Cricketers, Yateley

filler
Description: This large venue is set back off the main road, which makes it quiet for traffic noise but easy to miss. It has two separate bars, the larger of the two is already no-smoking, and has wooden railings around the raised seating area at the rear. There is no shortage of tables and chairs, including some high stools at the bar and a couple of padded benches. The ceiling is off-white painted wallpaper and the walls are a shade of teracotta. They are decorated with art prints. In one corner is one of those dispicable snack/nuts dispensing machines that are becoming more common in pubs. The smaller bar has a few tables, a dart board and a pool table. Beers on offer include Carling, Fosters, Kronenbourg, Stella Artois, Belhaven Best Smooth, Guinness, Guinness Extra Cold, and Strongbow Cider. Also real ales Greene King IPA / Abbot + Guest Ale. They also have a large selection of wines. Entertainment is provided by fruit machines. The live music is on Friday nights.

Duke of Wellington, East Horsley

filler
Description: This venue has a large car park to the rear. Overlooked by a decked terrace. A long U-shaped bar with the usual selection of Fosters, 1664 etc, and bottled beers, whiskies and spirits, the pool table and fruit machines are at one end and a large comfortable seating area with tiled wooden floor perfect for dancing at the other. Although some of the walls need a fresh coat of paint, it has a homely and traditional feel. The only fault in the architecture is the noticeable lack of windows. Blackboards display the specials. A major plus is the 5' by 6' screen with projector for sports. A small raised stage for gigs. This venue has recently been taken on by Clair and Christopher Leckie. There is now live music here.

Elmbridge Arms, Weybridge

Description: Formerly The Percy Lambert. This large venue has high ceilings and mood lighting, with a chandelier over the bar and some oversize burgundy shades. Most of the walls are plastered and there's also some bare brickwork. They are decorated with stretched canvas works of art, and old motor racing photos. Which is not surprising as the venue is named after a racing driver. The first man to drive at 100mph in 1913. He was tragically killed, just 8 months later, and his ghost is said to haunt the nearby Brooklands track. The flooring is the trendy option of bare wooden boards. The seating is a mixture of high tables and stools and some normal size ones, and a couple of padded benches. The four sided island bar is in the middle of the room, with the spirit bottles arranged on tiered shelves. There are no optics, but with those curved metal tubed caps. Beers on offer include Carling, Fosters, Heineken, Hoegaarden, Peroni, Stella, John Smiths Smooth, Guinness and Strongbow Cider. Also real ales Greene King IPA / Old Speckled Hen, Fullers London Pride. There is a pool room at the back, and a few fruit and quiz machines. The small raised stage for live music, though your view is often interupted by the steady flow of drinkers to the toilets and back again. Being situated in a high street, it has almost no windows, though the front has glass doors which look like they can be rolled back in summer. It has recently re-opened following a major refurbishment in Sept 2006. It is for over 21s only.

The large windows make it bright inside. The long main bar has bench seats. The band usally plays in one corner at the end of the bar and there's even a small dancefloor.
