Alley Bar, Guildford

Description: Formerly Fahrenheit55, this pint-sized venue is in the centre of Guildford, but up a narrow alley. The name, for those of you who either failed your "O" level chemistry, or have been on the wagon, refers to the perfect temperature to serve wine. It has multi-coloured walls and ceilings, with painted glass and print artworks. The small square terracota tiles on the floor in the main bar area, give it a mediteranian feel. Ground floor seating is provided by a couple of large sofas and poofs and high stools at the bar. There are more tables and and high stools on half of the mezzanine floor, reached by a bare pinewood staircase, with a green and red art installation made from padded bar stool seats. Beers on offer include Fosters, John Smith's, Kronenbourg Blanc, San Miguel and Guinness. Bottled beers such as Corona and Strongbow cider. They have nuts and some very tasty if expensive gourmet crisps. The only other entertainment apart from the wonderful live music is a computerised quiz/games machine. Theres a ciguarette machine too, but its life expectancy is hopefully limited. Most of the clientelle seem to be under 40.
