Description: After several dark years as a blues only venue, under the stewardship of Neale. This venue was refurbished and turned back into a family pub by Graham (True Deceivers) and Sarah Firth. After a couple of minor setbacks they worked hard to bring a wider selection of live music to this old fashioned venue. It has long been known as "Scratchers", I guess because of the lion's claws. It has low black oak ceilings and long wooden benches like church pews. Small leaded windows make it quite dark inside. The main bar has a tiled wooden floor, the side area where the stage is, is carpeted and on different levels. There is a small TV screen, for sports, Lagers include Holsten Export and Oranjeboom Pils, with a selection of Sheppherds Neame ales, Spitfire, Early Bird, Bishops Finger, and Kent's Best. Also Bulmers and Magners and Strongbow cider, along with Guinness and Double Stout. The usual wines and spirits. Large car park and beer garden with grass and benches. The Live music is on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons (4-6pm). It has recently been taken over by the Long Brothers, who are keen to continue with the live music.
